In reference to the book that I have written titled “Mary Jane’s War”. The genesis of the book “Mary Jane’s War” was my searching family history for the past forty years. My search uncovered this fascinating story that is part of the history of both Monroe County and the State of West Virginia.

Of course there is someone who sparked my interest in history and that was Leona Lynch Kessel, a teacher at Union High School. This spark was fanned by Dr. George Moore at Concord College.

The activities of the Union High School Alumni will award all who participate in gathering of information, and honoring those who have attended UHS and not let those memories pass from this world into the same oblivion that forever enshrouds the Hottentots, the Hindu and the Heathen.
