The UHS Class of 1961 met on September 24, 2016, at the Korner Kafe on Main Street, Union, West Virginia to celebrate their 55th Class Reunion. The dinner was prepared by the owner, Betty Lemons.  The Korner Kafe has been cited as the best place to eat in the town of Union.

“A big “Thank You” to Nancy Lynch Lightner for doing all the legwork to insure this event came off without a hitch. Thanks, also, to Linda Elmore Cohernour for all she does to keep the Class of ’61 memories alive. I’m sure I can speak for everyone when I say, “Well,  It was a fun night back in town”.  Seeing old friends, sharing good food, reliving old memories…..it is part of what makes life great. As much as we all enjoyed the evening, we equally missed all of you who couldn’t attend.  But, we keep you in our memories and hope you can get back to Union for some future event.”……Sonny Bell

Nancy Lightner presided over the class reunion remembering the nine deceased class members: Dorothy Dunbar Bennett, Barbara Beckner Dalton, Robert McClary, Bill Beasley, Roy Saylor, Paul Hill, Larry Dransfield, Jerry Lowe and Dale Hinkle.

Also, a big thanks to an anonymous benefactor….you know who you are….for the part you played in making our 55th year get-together a success.  Your generosity was much appreciated by all.  Thank You!…from the Class of ’61.

More comments from classmates:

Betty Sue Leach Moore….Thanks so much for adding the pictures of our class reunion and a huge thanks to Nancy Lightner for planning the event and encouraging everyone to attend.  To the “Anonymous doner” ….what a wonderful gesture and my personal thanks to you for your kindness and generosity.  For those who didn’t make it, I have enjoyed your responses and hope we can all get together at a later time.  To those who attended, it was great to see you!

John Kidd….Sorry that I was not able to attend, but it looks like you had a good time and good food!  Linda, thank you for your work and keeping everyone informed on things.

Camella Bostic Stephens….I enjoyed seeing so many classmates, everyone looks great!  Life sure has zoomed by (55) years. ..wow!

Margaret Glover Jones….It was so good to see the classmates from our High School years.  Sorry I was unable to attend.  I know I would have been blessed by seeing everyone!

Julia Dillon Kanatzar….So much fun seeing everyone’s picture.  You all look great!  Please stay in touch.  When I can make a trip there (from Texas), I hope we can all get together for lunch.

Bob Pruitt…..Enjoyed the pictures…the background of each pic is like a tour of Korner Kafe.  I am happily settled in a retirement community near interesting downtown, Dallas!

David Sizemore….Nancy, thank you for putting this together for us!! I had a great time and thanks to “All” for making Becky feel quite at home. Her first time at Betty’s Korner Kafe,  and  definitely wants to go back.
